To unite all everyday guitar players
We use smartphones every day, and one of the reasons why smartphones became something so convenient and powerful is the ecosystem of moblie applications and services. But is there a great app made for amateur guitarists?
There are countless apps for different services and purposes, but what if we can have everything inside a single app made for everyday guitar players?
And so Project Q9 was born...
Role
UI Designer (2019-2020)
This project is a collaboration between 6 university students across the globe.
While being responsible for the user interface, I also helped redirect our focus from making a social platform to creating an intuitive guitar learning experience.
Goals
1. Making learning and playing the guitar entertaining and accessible for everyone with user-friendly and consistent designs and experience.
2. Bringing everyday guitarists together to a single platform where they can share and interact.
UI Components
Design
Every element is constructed on the principle of making users fall in love with the app and playing the guitar.
The bright background makes the interface welcoming and friendly. The bold orange accent colour represents the childish feeling of learning something new. Rounded corners and circles have a playful and appealing aesthetic.
Card Design
The card design conveys the app's playful personality. It also signifies interactivity as the element can be opened up.

From left to right: Home, Connect, Learn, Account.
The Discover Tab
Users can buy a new guitar or look up sheet music.
Play to Learn
The integration of sheet music and lyrics enables the app to evaulate users' performance and abilties while gamifying the learning and playing experience.
With a game-like interface and score system, learning guitar will be more appealing and interactive.
Playing Mode
Sheet music is built into the app so that users can play along and compete with other users.
Creating with Ease
Due to the fact that sheet music is built-in, it would be a shame that users cannot create their own inside the app as well.
With careful button placement, the UI for creating sheet music / music enables users to reach necessary controls with only their thumbs when holding their phones in landscape mode with both hands.

Users can hold their phones like so, with both hands. All important controls are easily accessible from both sides.
